Making sure you have good pond care for your fish

If you are placing your fish in an outside pond, make sure it is large enough for the amount of fish you are getting as well as the type of fish you are getting. Even if you start off with some small fish you will find that they will grow larger being in a larger outdoor environment. Make sure you compensate for the growth.

While it is great to put a wide variety of plants in your pond, don't put too much in there! Too many plants can steal the oxygen away from the water and cause your fish to die. You will also find it harder to clean once you place them in there and then it will be harder to generally keep your pond in good condition. Make sure you know about the basic fish care chores.

Regularly clean all algae off the top of the water and don't go too long without some form of cleaning of the pond. An outdoor pond will get dirty very quickly, so regular maintenance on it every couple of days is essential in order to fully get the pond and it's condition. Pond care would help you to maintain your pet care chores.

Make sure you feed the fish regularly, but not too much that you can kill them. Being a bigger pond you might think it's important to feed them more, but you will find that it is actually not the case. You won't have to feed them anymore than you would a regular fish, so ensure you follow this closely. If you are unsure, check with your pet store for more details.

If your pond is under a tree, make sure you are constantly removing all leaves and extra bits of tree that land in the water. This is due to the compounds of organic material that can be found within the leaves and it can easily cause damage to the water and harm your fish.

If you want to keep water lilies then it's best to place them in a pond where it receives a good amount of direct sunlight. This will ensure that they are able to survive and won't die and contaminate your fish pond. As with any fish, you need to keep them regularly maintained for a good lifespan.
