Caring for your pet ducks
Make sure their outdoor shelter is nice and big so that the ducks can hide themselves in. They will get spooked if they see a bird of prey circling nearby and will want to quickly seek a place to hide in order to protect themselves. Build a sturdy shelter that allows your ducks to hide.Always make sure the place they are living in is kept clean, from the top right through to the bottom. A regular and proper pet care ensures that the avian pet is happy and healthy. If the bottoms layering becomes too dirty it can potentially cause a condition to your duck called bumblefoot, which can cause serious infections or in the worst case scenario, death.
You need to change their water daily and give them a big enough dish so that they can place their entire bill in it. Ducks like to play in water and make it dirty and flip dishes over, so if you provide them with a big enough dish then you will ensure it will be more difficult for them to do this.
Allow them a large area to go swimming in and play in water as it's important for their life that they get this. A duck has waterproofing all around it and this helps them stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Make sure the water they swim in is kept clean constantly and is large enough for several ducks to play around in. Always watch out to make sure there aren't any potential hazards that can be poisonous to the pets in the water for the ducks that could cause them harm.
Give your duck the correct food and don't just rely on things such as bread! You can feed them general chicken feed as well as some basic salad greens and other vegetables to keep them healthy. There are special duck foods you can buy but these can be quite expensive.
Consider getting more than one duck to keep your ducks happy! They are sociable birds and to have more than one will keep them entertained during the day. You can also see them play with each other and just have fun!
