  • If you don't like feeding live food to a pet, then don't get an amphibian! The majority of amphibian's need to be fed live food in order to properly maintain their diet. Always do some research into what food you need to give them and how you go about feeding them. Attentive pet care is a must for an amphibian as they require live food to eat. Some items or animals can be poisonous to the pet, so make sure you know about your pet care job thoroughly. Students who love amphibians often act as pet sitters. You can hire such a pet sitter from your neighborhood.
  • In your research, find out if your amphibian will require any form of hibernation. While most do not, there are some that will require a period of hibernation.
  • A great way to get started in looking after an amphibian is to keep tadpoles and watch them grow into frogs! You should do some good research to ensure that you are keeping them properly and maintaining their health and safety at the same time. It doesn't take much to look after tadpoles, but you should still make sure you are doing it correctly if you decide to keep them.
  • If you find your pet amphibian is sick, you should first remove them from the cage and try and keep them away from any other animal. Contact your vet and find out what they suggest, and if they don't have the right experience when it comes to looking after amphibians then you should find out somebody in your area that does. It's a good idea to do a bit of basic research prior to committing to an amphibian in order to know where to go should an emergency present itself.
  • Always clean your tank or cage with the amphibian in it regularly to ensure that no nasty parasites or bugs get in there that could harm your pet. Think of it as a fish tank that needs to be cleaned on a regular basis and ensure you keep it up regularly to make sure no diseases or infections can spread in the tank.
